After getting to Budapest, it turned out that the next day would be their independence day: St. Stephen’s Day. And, as independence days often go, there was going to be a significant fireworks show over the Danube River to celebrate the date. I took full advantage of the opportunity, booking a meal at one of the nicest restaurants in town, at the Fisherman’s Bastion overlooking the river and Parliament, and therefore the TRIPLE fireworks show that would be going on.

Oh yeah: it was all you could eat deer, eggplant penne, duck, fish, etc. and all you could drink wine.

I had several helpings of the bacon and pork skewers, and a few deer legs. The wine was only mediocre — sorry, Hungary! — but it did what wine does. After throwing down 10,000 calories, the show was ready to begin.
